about

Geometrica is a sustainable building design practice formed by Logan Shield to create green, energy efficient house renovations and extensions that transform your existing home into a light, bright and inspiring new space.

design philosophy

Geometrica creates design ideas for your home based on 3 main considerations:

  • You - the design must fulfill your lifestyle, space & budget requirements

  • Others - the design must respect its context, its neighbours & future owners

  • Environment - the design must respect the environment eg. minimise energy &
    resource use

design process

The process for home extensions and renovations is generally as follows:

  • Obtain clear project brief & budget

  • Schematic layout for use of space, solar orientation & zoning

  • Detailed design of shading, ventilation, thermal mass & interior

  • Select all materials, insulation & energy efficient systems

specialties

We specialise in designing green, energy efficient house renovations and extensions in older inner north & inner west suburbs such as Brunswick, Essendon, Moonee Ponds, Ascot Vale, Flemington, Kensington, Footscray, West Footscray, Seddon, Kingsville & Yarraville

Victorian, Edwardian and Federation homes are often in a ‘heritage overlay’. Rather than viewing these planning controls as a nuisance, we see this as an exciting opportunity to create modern spaces within a beautiful context

experience

Geometrica is run by Logan Shield, a building designer who graduated from RMIT. He gained valuable experience in planning / building regulations & contract documentation with an architectural firm. He also spent many years with a heritage architect working on some of Melbourne’s finest buildings

Geometrica works with a range of other experienced consultants including structural engineers & energy raters who are selected on a project basis

Logan also holds a first class honours degree in Physics from the University of Melbourne

sustainability

Geometrica is deeply committed to reducing its impact on the environment as follows:

  • Electricity is from 100% renewable resources, some from solar panels and the rest is 'Green Power'

  • Zero / minimal waste practices are employed ie waste is avoided through buying bulk foods, BYO containers etc

  • 2nd hand / recycled / upcycled items are chosen first. New items are bought only when absolutely necessary

  • Paper is avoided and email communication preferred. Office sketchbooks are made from salvaged paper

  • Ethical and sustainable values are the priority when sourcing both products and services
